Conservators are 'cleaning up the past'. "The cleaning of paintings attributed to Violante Siriès is a multi-step procedure which involves removing their very thick layer of grime and smoke deposits. The varnish on these paintings is a restoration varnish probably applied during the twentieth century. As we gradually removed the varnish from all the colours, the repaints emerged.
